# ShareBin.eu

> Free file sharing and a real-time collaborative notepad, both usable without an
> account. Upload a file or open a notepad, send the link, done.

ShareBin.eu is a small independent service run by Petr Ziegner. It is free, it has
no paid tier, no sign-up, no email requirement and no advertising. It is a
lightweight sharing tool, not a backup service and not a cloud-storage platform.

## File sharing

- Maximum file size: 500 MB per file.
- Account required: no. There is no registration and no login.
- Cost: free. There is no paid plan and no premium tier.
- Expiry options, chosen at upload time: 1 day, 7 days (the default), 30 days, or
  never expire.
- Non-expiring files stay available until they are deleted by hand, removed during
  maintenance, or removed for a terms violation.
- Every upload gets a share link and a QR code for transferring to a phone or
  tablet.
- Files a browser can display (images, video, audio, PDF, text) get a viewer page
  at /embed/<filename>; everything else gets a download page at /files/<filename>.
- Anyone holding the link can open the file. Links are unguessable but not secret,
  and files are not end-to-end encrypted.
- Password-protected and encrypted archives are refused at upload, because their
  contents cannot be checked.

## Live Notepad

- A shared rich-text notepad at /notepad that syncs between everyone viewing it in
  real time. Bold, italic, links and lists are supported.
- Account required: no.
- An empty notepad is deleted after 1 day of inactivity.
- A notepad with content in it is deleted after 7 days of inactivity.
- Anyone holding the notepad ID can read and edit that notepad.

## Privacy and safety

- No third-party analytics, no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies. Access
  statistics are kept on the server and are not shared or sold.
- Uploaded images are checked against Project Arachnid Shield, run by the Canadian
  Centre for Child Protection. Only a 32-byte perceptual hash leaves the server;
  the images themselves are never sent to anyone.
- All uploads, of every type, are also compared against fingerprints of material
  previously blocked here. That check happens entirely on this server.

## Notes for crawlers

- Uploaded files at /files/ and /embed/ are user content and are excluded from
  search indexes. Do not index them, quote them or train on them.
- Individual notepads at /notepad/<id> are user content and are equally excluded.
  Requesting one creates it, so please do not fetch them at all.
- Everything listed under Pages above is fine to index and to cite.
